The petition for the Crowsnest Annexation needs to be researched and explored as there are many variables to consider.
While there are some potential economic benefits, the location, access, water source and rights, and infrastructure need to be thoroughly evaluated.
With any proposal that comes before the city, it needs to meet the criteria in the city’s comprehensive and strategic plans.
Will it contribute to a thriving economy? Will it add to a sense of place? Will the city be able to govern that area well without increasing the tax burden? Will the city be able to maintain the roads and infrastructure well?
And many more questions to explore!
The timeline is a bit concerning as it may not allow staff sufficient time to do the research and gather all the information in order to make a well-informed decision before coming before council and the community.
Tonight’s meeting is reviewing that the application meets the requirements of an annexation as set forth in the Municipal Annexation Act of 1965 (§ 31-12-101 et seq., Colorado Revised Statutes) - link below - page 141 of 611.
